Samsung’s 75-inch D9500 3D TV announced for Korea, laughs at LG

Samsung's 75-inch D9500 3D TV announced for Korea, laughs at LG

Check out this brand new electronic windscreen from Samsung. Here’s Samsung’s new 75-inch 3D HDTV called the D9500, for those that must have everything new and exciting, since 3D is dancing on hotplates now.

Taking away LG’s 72-inch LZ9700 crown, this is the world’s largest LED-backlit 3D LCD HDTV. Looks like Samsung is also serious about LG rubbing its nose.

The 240Hz display will also come with the usual Smart TV features, garnished by a QWERTY flip remote for your web-browsing and SNS needs on that large screen. Of course, being the ‘world’s number 1’ means that it ain’t cheap. Oddly enough, only an ex-factory price of a whooping ₩19,000,000 ($17,600) is quoted here, so customers will have to pay a bit more than that during the pre-sales at the end of the month.

Samsung Infuse 4G launched

Samsung Infuse 4G launched

Yet another super slim phone from Samsung, but this time there’s no dual-core madness and no Gingerbread, at least not yet. Samsung Infuse 4G will be launching May 15 on AT&T for $200 on a two-year contract. Consider this an ‘updated’ Galaxy S with 4G speed in it.

Things are very common under the plastic cover. There’s the 1.2GHz processor, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, 2GB microSD card, 8-Megapixel camera that does 720p, 1.3-Megapixel front face shooting for camwhore, and Android 2.2. The phone is madly thin at 8.9mm, and the thickest part that bulges out at the bottom is only 9.24mm.

The phone is called a 4G because it packs HSDPA Cat 14 and PSUPA Cat 6 radios, meaning to say that it’s capable of up to 21Mbps of HSPA+ goodness.

Samsung SENS-240 Navigation Tablet

So you think that Samsung only cares about their super slim Galaxy S II smartphone, the new 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab v10.1, and the new 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab? Well not really. Samsung has been busy nonstop in their lab, and has now released a new navigation system in the form of a tablet. This is the brand new SENS-240 hybrid car navigation system/tablet. It’ll work perfectly with your Android-powered Samsung smartphone and tablet, as this is also powered by Android.

The SENS-240 uses Bluetooth to take over your voice, data, voice search, and video features from your smartphone when driving. You can then control the SENS-240 using your smartphone or tablet as an “advanced” remote when idle. The new Samsung SENS-240 comes jam-packed with a 1.43GHz processor, a 7-inch (800 x 480) display, a 256MB of RAM, a USB-host mode and an SD slot. This hardware configuration is powerful enough to handle 3D maps, video, or DMB TV.

There’s no pricing being announced here, so you’ll need to wait for your local distro to bring in this to know the price. Ain’t she cute?

8.9-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab demoed in Germany

Samsung unveiled to the world an 8.9-inch super slim Galaxy Tab 8.9 at CTIA, but never demoed to everyone, causing rumours that those were just dummy sets. But now, an event in Frankfurt, Germany has the real deal being demoed to the public over the weekend. Johannes from NewGadgets was there to try out the prototype, and he mentioned that it’s actually even slimmer than the prototype seen in March, and what’s more it’s even slimmer than the iPad 2. Samsung is expected to launch this new 8.9-inch Honeycomb tablet in summer, so get ready for some super slim super model tablets coming your way. We’re already very excited with the arrival of the super slim Galaxy S II smartphone, and now Samsung seemed to be in obsession with slim products. Way to go Samsung! Now they should also focus on improving the TouchWiz.

Who is Samsung “Alex”?

Who is Samsung “Alex”?

Google I/O is getting nearer as we speak, and yet again another Chrome OS-based device has reached into the Chromium bug report. This time, it’s someone, or something, called Samsung “Alex”. Yes, we most probably can confirm that this is a netbook from Samsung that carries the Chrome OS from Google.

The report clearly lists the specifications of the netbook, and we’ll briefly go through them. The netbook “Alex” seemed to be slightly better spec-ed then the Cr-48. It’s powered by Intel 1.5GHz Atom N550 processor, with a 2GB memory, Realtek ALC272 audio, and a Sandisk solid state drive for storage. The report also lists the Qualcomm Gobi Chipset 2000 for connectivity and a screen resolution of 1280 x 800, which seemed decent.

If you’re not sure what Gobi is, let Qualcomm explain. “Gobi is the first embedded mobile wireless solution designed to put an end to connectivity limitations. With Gobi, the notebook computer becomes the unifying agent between the different high speed wireless networking technologies deployed around the world and that means freedom from having to locate hotspots, more choice in carrier networks, and, ultimately, freedom to Gobi where you want without fear of losing connectivity – your lifeline to your world.”

Sounds like WiFi-direct to me. Essentially, the Chrome OS netbook/notebook can be taken anywhere across the globe and use any wireless network. Previous reports indicate that the device will be sold like Google’s Android products— mainly in retail stores and wireless carriers. Using Gobi will make it easier for Google to sell the notebooks across the board rather than having to build one for AT&T, build one for Verizon and so on. Sounds complicated? It’s like a global radio chipset stuff.

Google I/O event will commence next week, so we expect some sort of announcement, if not a launching, for the Google Chrome OS notebooks.

Samsung Galaxy S II pre-order surpassed Apple iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S II pre-order surpassed Apple iPhone 4

Well, at least that’s the numbers in South Korea. Last Monday Samsung launched the pre-order of their brand new flagship phone the Galaxy S II, and in between Monday and the actual launch day on Friday, over 200,000 pre-orders were made across all three major Korean carriers. About 160,000 of those were at the country’s largest carrier, SK Telecom.

About 10,000 units were pre-ordered in the first 30 minutes, and doubled in just over an hour. This set a new record for Samsung, which surpassed the popular iPhone 4 pre-orders last August in South Korea. Will Apple be able to break this record in Samsung’s home ground? The American firm took just over half as many pre-orders last year, but then again it only had just KT as its carrier back then, and only added SK Telecom as a carrier in March.

Samsung’s long-term, worldwide ambitions for the Galaxy S II are relatively modest. It plans to sell 10 million of the phones in all of 2011, or the same as it sold of the original last year. Odd that Samsung didn’t set a higher mark to reach, seeing as they improved almost everything about the original Galaxy S, when they designed the successor.

Of course, Apple’s success can be seen in the international market, where the company shipped about 18.65 million iPhones just in the winter.

Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series appears on Amazon for $649 Amazon, now gone

Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series appears on Amazon for $649 Amazon, now gone

Samsung didn’t mentioned about when the update to their sliding PC will arrive when it demoed the device at CES, but apparently a successor to the Sliding PC 7 Series tablet/laptop hybrid has appeared on Amazon. Of course, the link is now taken down apparently, but we still managed to get some info regarding this sliding tablet from Korea.

This is a 10-inch touchscreen tablet with 1366 x 768 resolution, with dual front and rear cameras (1.3 and 3.0 megapixels, respectively), a 32GB SSD, 2GB of RAM and, of course, Intel’s 1.5GHz Atom Oak Trail Z670 processor, which was originally scheduled to launch in March, before being pushed back to May. The slider will also run on Windows 7 Home Premium, and come equipped with 802.11b/g/n WiFi. When it debuted earlier this year, the Series 7 boasted optional 3G and WiMAX features, as well as a six-cell battery that claimed to last up to nine hours on a single charge.

Amazon listed the slider for only $649, and if this is indeed the final price, then you can consider this to be a potential Windows 7 tablet that will give the Android tablets a run for its money.

Samsung readies global domination with their new Galaxy S II

Samsung readies global domination with their new Galaxy S II

We’ve seen blockbuster movies going from sequel to sequel, and it seemed that Samsung is getting ready to do just the same. Their flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S, sold 10 million units worldwide, and how do they relive their next successor to a greater height? They’re gonna launch a bigger-budget sequel to an even wider audience.

Samsung is holding a media day event in South Korea to celebrate the domestic launch of its smokin’ fast Galaxy S II handset. The dual-core 1.2GHz Gingerbread handset with 4.27-inch 800 x 480 pixel Super AMOLED Plus display, TouchWiz 4.0 UI, MHL port, and 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p video is already on limited sale in the UK on its way to a 120 country / 140 carrier invasion — that’s plus 10 countries over the initial Galaxy S target.

This is the time to decide guys, going for the now-unimpressive white knight iPhone 4, or this new super model from Samsung.

Toshiba reveals 7-inch LCD with integrated touch, super slim at only 1mm

Toshiba reveals 7-inch LCD with integrated touch, super slim at only 1mm

Looks like Samsung’s mighty Super AMOLED Plus will soon see a new rival in this elite market of super slim and super light and less reflective LCDs. Toshiba has stepped into this demanding market with its as-yet-unnamed technology seeks improvement in a roughly similar way to Super AMOLED, by fusing the capacitive touch layer and LCD. In so doing, Toshiba claims it can produce an integrated panel just 1mm thick, which it says is less than half the thickness of a conventional LCD touchscreen. Weight is also said to be half and surface reflection is said to be reduced by 10-percent. Hopefully a head-to-head comparison between this unnamed technology and Samsung’s best and meanest will surface soon so that we can compare, and complain. The screen is said to be demonstrated next month over at LA, so until next month then.
