Acer makes dual booting much more colourful and happy

Acer makes dual booting much more colourful

Acer has just issued a new line of netbooks, and they can’t blame me for thinking that they’re going the Sony’s style. Thus far, I’ve only seen their Aspire One with up to four colour options, but this time, it’s still the same four options but with a more vivid colour. This 10.1-inch machine packs a WSVGA panel, six-cell battery (up to eight hours of battery life), Atom N450 CPU, GMA 3150 GPU, 250GB hard drive, WiFi, 2GB of memory and inbuilt Bluetooth.

Panasonic launches Toughbook CF-C1 convertible tablet notebook

Panasonic launches Toughbook CF-C1 convertible tablet notebook

And here I thought manufacturers had stopped producing notebooks (or real tablets, that’s what we call them back then) like this. They’re thick, and ugly. But Panasonic seemed not to give up on this classic design, or should I say their design team is rather dated. Nevertheless, it’s a Toughbook, so it’s built to be tough, and usually tough does not share the same sentence with beauty. This new CF-C1 convertible tablet boasts a resistive touchscreen which will register gloved presses, and comes with accidental damage warranties for extra coverage in non-traditional work environments. Specwise, the Toughbook’s got a very healthy 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 CPU, a host of hard drive options, plus 3G, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. Other rugged / business features include a spill-proof keyboard and security features for multiple users. The Windows 7 CF-C1 is available now in the UK for £1,709 (that’s around $2,700).

Panasonic Toughbook S9 the world's lightest 12.1-inch laptop with a DVD drive

When one says tough, you’d think of the massive size of the muscle gained to look tough, and some time act tough. Cars gain massive weight to be tough, same goes to guys. But you can’t say the same for girls. Well, here goes a story of Panasonic’s Toughbook, which is tough as we all know. But strangely, like girls, they lose weight!

Sony's 13-inch VAIO Z line gets updated, still very pricey

Sony's 13-inch VAIO Z line gets updated, still very pricey

Sony has refreshed their ‘overpriced’ VAIO Z lineup with some really awesome goodings. The machine that debuted back in February is now up for your itchy hands at a starting price of some awesome $2,249.99. What are you getting from that bizarre price? The 13.3-inch machine can now be ordered with a presumably lap-melting Core i5-460M (2.53GHz), Core i5-580M (2.66GHz) or Core i7-640M (2.8GHz), an optional carbon fiber colour casing, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 256GB or 512GB SSD, optional Blu-ray Disc burner, an SDXC card reader and NVIDIA’s GeForce GT330M graphics card. Of kush, with that price, there’s also HD, as the screen can go to 1920 x 1080 with no sweat.

Sony refreshes Vaio with new power plant and some goodings

Sony refreshes Vaio with new power plant and some goodings

Sony has prepared to refresh their Vaio laptops with some seasonal upgrades seeing as winter is coming soon. First and foremost, the 16.4-inch VAIO F is getting a kick in the graphical department – just as expected, you can grab a GeForce GT 425M 1GB for a nominal $50 fee — and there’s a pair of standard-issue USB 3.0 ports to power some potent peripherals. The Vaio L touchscreen all-in-one, meanwhile, is getting a Blu-ray burner at the $2,199 level, and both the VAIO EA and VAIO EB will have a power plant of 2.53GHz Core i5-460M and 2.66GHz Core i5-580M processors for $130 and $230 premiums, respectively, as well as ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics for a mere $100. Last but not least, the EB and EC can trade in their weak 1366 x 768 displays for 1920 x 1080 full HD glory, and until October 9th that particular $50 upgrade costs you the very reasonable price of free, or so they say.

Panasonic cranks out new 31 and 19 Series Toughbooks for Japan

I’ve to admit that Panasonic’s Toughbook has never been that appealing to me, thought we can’t at all blame it to not win the beauty pageant, when it’s made to be in the war zone. Panasonic’s gone on a real tear here, releasing two new Toughbook models at once. While you grapple with the implications of such a thing, let’s get down to details. Read more…

Chip Tablet PC Concept more than a notebook, not yet a desktop.

Chip Tablet PC Concept more than a notebook, not yet a desktop.

Designer Shyam Balasubramanian has developed a multifunctional computer that allows great flexibility to enhance the experience of the user. Known as the Chip Tablet PC, this multi-use computer is designed to be used as a desktop, a laptop and tablet computer, though I can’t see how that is possible. The aim is to provide an optimum user experience by giving flexibility and compact design that will suite the user’s purpose and needs. The Chip Tablet PC concept has a removable screen that separates from PC to become a tablet for personal use. The keyboard layout is designed identically to those like a notebook, with a touchpad and no numerical pad. The display seemed to be too thick to even be called portable. The display seemed to be identical to a desktop’s design, but I doubt that with such size, you can’t actually fit ‘desktop-spec’ hardware into it. It doesn’t seem practical by my standard.
