People living in Japan can get a free 8GB iPhone 3G through Softbank Mobile (carrier of Apple’s smartphone in Japan) with their 2-years contract. If customers wish to have the 16GB iPhone, they will need to pay only $118 (original price $350). Softbank Mobile also restructured its data plan, the new and existing subscribers will pay only $45.60/month, that’s a reduce from $62.

Chinese-language Economic Daily News has some news on the iPhone Nano. According to their report, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) is dealing with Apple to provide processing chips. The rumor says that Apple will be releasing its iPhone Nano sometime this Spring.

Atif Shamin is a PhD student at Carleton University in Canada. He has invented this ‘transmitter system on-package’ which can extend the battery life of mobile devices. He’s aiming on the connection between the circuit board and the antenna. He’s not using wire for this instead he designed a high frequency micro-transmitter and receiver which is to avoid the usual loss of power pumping bits through a wire. He created a module replacing all the wires connecting a phone’s electrical circuits and antennae, making all of them communicate wirelessly. This device make the efficiency 12 times over which greatly improving the battery life.

The duiPhone is a new iPhone hack. They attached the breathalyzer to the back of the 3G iPhone (works on iPod Touch too, according to the pictures). Obviously it is to check alcohol level. Just blow into the mouthpiece and the application will determine your blood alcohol level and tell you whether you are good to go or you should take a cab.
