Cooler Master organized a case mod competition, and there are really some very amazing mods that surfaced from this competition. But the coolest is probably this one, a rig that is built in a desk.

This isn’t really the first time I saw someone stuffed a rig into his/her desk, but this is the first that I saw with a custom water cooling setup. Check out more of the mods after the jump.

A dude name Peter from the Netherlands managed to fit a pretty solid and uber rig into his compartment: an overclocked 4.5GHz Core i7-980X processor, two Asus GeForce GTX580 graphic cards running in SLI, over 12TB of storage with an SSD boot disk, and two PSUs proving powers total up to 1,500W. All these, water cooled!

But that’s not all. The monitor is also a 3 x 1 setup with custom arrangement, using a 27-inch Dell U2711 IPS panel monitor with two unnamed 17-inch monitors. Right, and let’s not forget the coolant used here, which makes everything glow under the power of UV light. Bling at its max!

Check out his full logs at the link below.

Ever since the Fukushima nuclear crisis caused by the earthquake and tsunami in March, radiation and nuclear meltdown have become a much talked-about topic. People are becoming more wary of radiations and nuclear waste. Now, if you’re curious and want to know about the radiation in your surroundings, you’ll need a Geiger counter. However, where the hell can you get one? They’re not stuff sold in Ace hardware or your local convenient store.

Nerd heads will love this alternative and geeky Geiger counter by the Libelium gang. En route to the Tokyo Hackerspace as we speak, the Radiation Sensor Board for Arduino is a low-cost alternative to existing devices. It’s available now either with a compatible geiger tube for €95 ($135) or without for €65 ($50).

Like all electronic devices these days, the Apple TV gets its fair share of teardown by the itchy hands of iFixit gang. The teardown reveals an 8GB of storage provided by a Samsung K9LCG08U1M NAND Flash chip, which is the same one found in the iPad. There’s also the exact same markings on its Apple A4 processor as the iPad and new iPod touch, K4X2G643GE (not the same as the iPhone 4, as it turns out), the exact same Broadcom BCM4329XKUBG 802.11n WiFi / Bluetooth / FM chip as the iPad, and at 256MB, the same amount of RAM. That’s a lot of ‘same found in iPad’. IFixit noted that there are solder pads near the side of the logic board, which look to be a perfect fit for an Apple dock connector. See how the teardown goes over at iFixit.

Fancy Iron Man yet your new hand-blaster from Toys’R’Us is letting you down? When it comes to cosplaying, some fans are downright serious about it, and sometimes go all-out in their costumes and gadgets. Whether it is crafting a life-size Buster sword or a Transformers costume that can actually transform, countless sweaty and smelly hours will be poured into these props. If that’s the sort of thing you enjoy, then you might want to check out this awesome repulse beam blaster. Sadly, the name’s the only cool thing, because you can’t really destroy your house wall with this. What a relief for mums.

The arm-mounted contraption is constructed from a xenon bulb coupled with the flash capacitor and charge circuit from a disposable camera. Of course some other necessary parts are there to get them all to work together nicely. The ring itself has a constant glow from a set of LED bulbs, but the real power comes from the xenon one. A press of a button starts it charging, then you need only touch one of your fingers to a trigger on the ring. It may not physically harm your foe, but it will very likely blind them.
