FBI Raids 30 Underground “Scene” Servers
FBI raided 30 “scene” servers yesterday and multiple arrests had been made. With the FBIs first shot, the MPAA reported information that has led to 4 topsites being shut down, and forcing several others offline. Several FBI officers took down 7-8 boxes hosted by Layered Tech, and later on busted servers hosted by Server Matrix. DiAMOND, FLAMES, NBP, SAGA, TBE and other groups were part of the take down.
In total, 18-20 boxes were raided, with hundreds of terabytes of data stored in total, 4 topsites were shut down directly because of the actions of the FBI, and the number of other sites that were slowed down, or shut down on their own, is not known. In response to the busts, several people in the scene are urging people to abandon using Layered Tech and Server Matrix to use as seedboxes, fearing it is only a matter of time until they are noticed taken down.

UAT Course : A Degree in Hacking
The University of Advancing Technology in Phoenix, Ariz, is marketing its new Network Security program as a way to get a degree in hacking. The school is drawing the interest of geeks who use Windows, Linux and Macintosh. Hackerdegree.com website looks like a non-Windows desktop with a few terminals open, inviting the curious to learn more about fighting “cybercrime,” “cybertheft,” and even “cyberterrorism.” This linux environment website is trying to attract students with 1337 speaks. I think a guest ssh session would have been more interesting and would have given candidate students a real taste.

PerSecondPodcast - Own a Piece of Audio History
Matthew, Joseph, Sean and Bradford are Yale students and they are the people behind the project called PerSecondPodcast. It is an online audio time capsule where anyone can buy audio space by the second. You can advertise your website, rant about politics, play a portion of your bands new song and even deliver an existentialist monologue. It will soon be playing on college radio stations across the country, iTunes RSS-subscribable, submitted for play on XM and Sirius satellite radio, and physically housed in several iPod time capsules to be buried upon completion of the project.
[Thanks Elliot]
