WP7 Mango Beta 1 Shoved In HTC HD2, Microsoft Gives Thumbs Up

July 13th, 2011

The HTC HD2 is one of those phones that at its prime was pretty kick ass hardware wise but sadly let down by a substandard operating system. Remember the things about the Windows Mobile 6.5? Yeah, we knew how it feels bro.

The relatively antiquated phone got a new lease of life as the guys over at XDA-Developers smacked the latest Windows Phone 7 Beta update, Mango Beta 1 into the device. And the best thing about this stunt of smartphone customisation? Microsoft has given their blessings. Microsoft has no plans to make Mango available for Windows Phone 6.5 handsets as expected, but had this to say:

“We say tinker away with Mango and enjoy the juice,” Microsoft spokesman Bill Cox said in a statement to AllThingsD. “But beware the fine print – unlocking phones may void your warranty.”

Good to see Redmond giving a tip of the hat to the community who are passionate about their products. Check out the video for a demonstration of the update on the HD2.
