Nvidia 3D Vision Wired Glasses

Nvidia has unveiled their second pair of 3D glass, this time it’s the 3D Vision glass Wired Version. The new glass will be shown at the Computex 2011 trade show in Taipei. This wired version is essentially the same as the wireless edition, using Nvidia’s active-shutter technology, which allows users to view computer games and movies in stereoscopic 3D. Users connect the glasses to a PC via a 10-foot-long USB 2.0 cable. The Nvidia 3D Vision wired glasses are expected to be available in late June 2011.

PayPal sues Google over their new NFC-mobile payment Google Wallet

PayPal sues Google over their new NFC-mobile payment Google Wallet

Google announced their NFC-based mobile payment program last week, and shortly after, someone already has the gut to sue Google regarding this. Who is it? Well, it’s PayPal.

Bloomberg reports that PayPal is suing Google and two of its executives, claiming that the search giant has misappropriated trade secrets from its mobile payment business. The company claims that Osama Bedier, a former PayPal exec now employed by Google, has stolen confidential information from PayPal and is now leading Google’s efforts to “bring point of sale technologies and services to retailers on its behalf.”

“Bedier and Google have misappropriated PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google and to major retailers,” Bloomberg cites PayPal’s suit as saying.

Also named in the suit is Stephanie Tilenius, who also left her position at PayPal to go and work for Google. Tilenius supposedly breached her contract by recruiting Bedier and Bedier is thought to have hired away PayPal employees too.

And for all this spitting around, Google only has this to say:

“Silicon Valley was built on the ability of individuals to use their knowledge and expertise to seek better employment opportunities, an idea recognized by both California law and public policy,” Google spokesman Aaron Zamost is quoted as saying. “We respect trade secrets, and will defend ourselves against these claims.”

In China, you get to play WOW if you’re a prisoner

In China, you get to play WOW if you’re a prisoner

I’m not sure whether to think that this is funny, or very torturing. Apparently, a 54-year-old prisoner in China called Liu Dali (not his real name) would be breaking rocks and digging trenches in the coalmines of north-east China by day, and by night, build up credits in online games that prison guards would then use to trade for real money. And he’s not alone.

According to Guardian, there are more than 300 prisoners being forced to earn virtual gold for the guards. Sounds like a good business to run a prison.

“Prison bosses made more money forcing inmates to play games than they do forcing people to do manual labor,” he told the Guardian newspaper. “There were 300 prisoners forced to play games. We worked 12-hour shifts in the camp. I heard them say they could earn 5,000-6,000rmb [between $616 and $924] a day. We didn’t see any of the money. The computers were never turned off.”

Gold farming, the practice of mining massive amounts of gold and then selling it on for hard cash, is an increasingly big problem in China and the country essentially banned it two years ago by making the practice of selling virtual goods for real money illegal. In 2009, WoW Insider reported that the gold farming industry was generating about $1 billion worldwide and as much of 85 percent of gold farmers were residing in China.

NVIDIA refreshes notebook graphics with GeForce GTX 560M

NVIDIA refreshes notebook graphics with GeForce GTX 560M

Nvidia refreshes its mobile graphic for the laptop market, and has already managed to attract four major players to release products running on them. Nvidia has announced two new chips for the mobile keyboard warriors, and one of them is the new GTX 560M.

The GTX 560M is obviously the successor for the GTX 460M, running on the same 192 CUDA cores (now clocked at 1550MHz) and up to 3GB of GDDR5 memory (now clocked at 1250MHz, with a 192-bit bus). Nvidia guarantees that you will be able to run the latest games playable framerates on a 1080p screen with maximum detail — save antialiasing. Of course, that assumes you’ve also got a recent quad-core Sandy Bridge processor and gobs upon gobs of RAM, but NVIDIA also says that with the built-in Optimus switchable graphics, those same potent laptops should be able to manage five hours of battery life while idling, if you really need them.

Of course, those with slightly tighter budgets will be happy that Nvidia is also launching the new GeForce GT520MX for laptops, which bumps up all the clock speed for the GT 520M. Four laptop manufacturers will be launching laptops utilizing these chips, and they are Asus, Alienware, MSI, and Toshiba.

Hot Wheels made record with 500 feet jump with a truck

Ever see a truck sail through the air at 332 feet? Well, that’s what we did when we’re still kids, using our hot wheel toys and imagine stuff like that. And now, the dream has come through for many, as the Team Hot Wheels has successfully made the world-record jump attempt.

The 90-foot ramp was constructed in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s infield over the last several weeks for Hot Wheels’ event called “Fearless at the 500”, which was meant to simulate that orange track we all grew up with, hung from a giant 10-story door.

The stunt itself was a success, and fans at the Brickyard watched the truck sail, ramp-to-ramp, 332 feet through the air, setting a world record for four-wheeled vehicles in the process. Upon landing, the mystery driver doffed his helmet to reveal himself as American Top Gear host Tanner Foust

Rumor: Sony NGP to be called ‘PS Vita’?

Rumor: Sony NGP to be called ‘PS Vita’?

When Sony announced their PSP NGP, that term stands for Next Generation Portable, which isn’t really a proper name. Sony also mentioned that the handheld device is only a prototype, and the final name will be different altogether. Now, we have a name for it.

According to anonymous sources speaking with two separate, unknown sites, the NGP will officially become the “PS Vita” as of just a few weeks from now, during the aforementioned E3 presser.

Rumor: Sony NGP to be called ‘PS Vita’?

Two images were initially posted to one of the sites yesterday — a Blogspot site owned by someone named Hugo Miramontes — though the shots were later taken down along with the post. In its place, a note now sits, which reads, “This has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m sorry. I really am.”

A cached version of another now deleted post, which originally indicated just the “PS Vita” name, has comments from the blog’s author, explaining that the images are “prepared graphics for E3.”

Of course, all these could just be a hoax made by teenagers that had too much time to fool around and no time to study and always retake the same course over and over again. We’ll have to wait until E3 arrives to know the real deal.
