Asus has gone mad yet again. Proof? Well, the monstrous graphic card above is already a solid evidence of their devilish guilt. Nvidia didn’t do justice when they announced their GeForce GTX 590, which is supposed to be a dual-GF110 solution. The performance isn’t anywhere near 2x of the GTX 580, and well the power consumption also. It also didn’t manage to beat rival AMD’s Radeon HD6990, which is also a dual-GPU solution graphic card.

Now, Asus is going to back Nvidia up with this new custom dual-GF110 graphic card, which is considered the REAL dual-GF110. It’s made under the spirit of Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers) and is going to carry the legendary moniker of MARS, so the card is guaranteed to be epic.

The card is about as long as a Radeon HD 5970, a couple of inches higher, and three slots thick. Yes, it’s going to eat up 3 PCI slots! . Its cooler sticks to the black+red color scheme in use with ASUS ROG products for a while now, and uses an intricate cutout design.

The shroud suspends two 120 mm high-sweep fans that blow air on to two heatsinks with highly dense aluminum fin arrays to which heat is fed by copper heat pipes. The card draws power from three 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. You hear that right, 2 x 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors!

The card uses two NVIDIA GF110 GPUs with the same core configuration and clock profile as GeForce GTX 580, effectively making MARS II a dual-GTX 580, which also provides the overclocking headroom of a GTX 580, something impossible on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590.

Will this card perform like an SLI GTX 580? Well, we’ll know soon enough.
