Microsoft refutes Intel’s claims about Windows 8, calls them ‘factually inaccurate’

Earlier this week Intel SVP Renee James mentioned that legacy x86 programs won’t be able to run on the ARM architecture of Windows 8, and requiring a re-write for developers and probably a re-purchase for users. Also, he mentioned that each of the four hardware suppliers for Windows 8 systems-on-chip will have a different code stack, incompatible with the rest, something that sounded slightly absurd to me thought.
Now, Microsoft has stepped up to clarify things, well almost. Microsoft’s statement goes by saying that Intel’s say were “factually inaccurate and unfortunately misleading”. However, the statement stopped there, making us wonder which is actually inaccurate, and which is actually misleading.
The legacy app incompatible part, the reprogramming part, the repurchase part, or the four hard suppliers with different code stack part. The Redmond team had nothing more to say on the matter, offering only a reminder that Windows 8 is still at the tech demo stage and there’s still a long way to go.
Yup, they can change anything at this stage, so I kind of trust them on this.
