When it comes to sales statistics, Sony’s solid numbers are usually referring to “shipped” figures, not actual sales and activation. However, Sony has gone the extra mile this time at GDC and revealed the staggering sales figure of the company’s popular game console: 41 million Sony PlayStation 3 sold worldwide thus far.

That’s the number of PS3 consoles the company says it has sold worldwide, and over 80 percent are actually connected to the Internet. Yes, the PS3 has been around for quite some time, but then again if we look at the numbers, they do look abit awkward. Last year Sony claimed that the PlayStation store saw a 60 percent boost in traffic and a 70 percent boost in revenue from a total of 70 million PSN accounts. This means that the PS3 accounts for 58 percent of the PSN accounts worldwide.
