Apple ships 100 millionth iPhone, 15 million iPads sold in 2010

No wonder Apple has so much confidence to go shopping for IPS screens and NAND chips in such a large volume, and claiming to gear up to 20 or 30 million iPads. And their source of confidence? Well, Apple’s been having one record quarter after another, and the numbers are staggering.

At the iPad event that just concluded last night, Steve Jobs revealed that the company recently shipped its 100 millionth iPhone, and that it sold 15 million ‘magical’ iPads in 2010, a figure he points out is “more than every tablet PC ever sold”. The iPad alone provided Apple with $9.5 billion of revenue in just nine months, which is more than just staggering, it’s mind-boggling. Jobs also noted that there are now 65,000 apps specifically for the iPad compared to just 100 for Honeycomb tablets (somebody please tell him Honeycomb is just launched this month). Though, I can’t deny his claim of the iPad being revolutionary.
