AMD back in the game, want to fight with Intel Core i7?

March 2nd, 2011

Thus far AMD has been out of the game when it comes to performance market and the fight of the top dog. Their new Fusion chips are all about the low-end market performance and miniature setups. However, AMD has not given up the throne just yet, as they believe their new Accelerated Processing Units may be able to give Chipzilla a good punching session.

AMD has shown off their new quad-core Llano APU by pitting it up against Intel’s latest Sandy Bridge platform in the video below. Well, a simple test can’t really show the performance of a certain platform, but it’s still a good comparison. A 3D game, HD video playback (plus post-processing on the Llano rig), Excel calculations, and some 3D modeling, all running simultaneously — is handled most impressively by the A8-3510MX APU, which even manages to use less power than Intel’s 2GHz Core i7-2630QM.
