Malaysia has received its very first ‘official’ maid café with this newly opened “Tenshi の Café” at e@Curse Shopping Mall in Mutiara Damansara. Well, we’ve seen quite a small number of others, but they’re not quite genuine, and there’s of course plenty of those maid café loaded with unlimited choices of PRC, but they’re not authentic for otakus.

For those who are not familiar with the concept of maid café, it is basically a restaurant where the waitresses are dressed in French maid outfit and act as servants (or butlers if it’s a guy) in private homes. So, instead of treating customers as per norm, customers are treated as masters/mistresses; yes, just like how it is portrayed in Japanese animes and mangas. Fantasy dreams, we all have them don’t we?

The cafe itself is wide and spacious to provide sufficient moving space for all the customers and the ‘maids’. There are even figurines being displayed at the entrance of the cafe. Customers are served in groups, and once they bring you to your seats, you’re straight away given a menu, with the “Rules & Regulations” in the first page, just in case.

While this is not the first maid café in the country, their standards are considered slightly higher than those before them. For example, the “maids” were chosen in a very strict interview, and obviously you’ll need to have the looks too in order to work in there, and approval comes from Japan, before they’re selected. And once they’re selected, they’re sent over to Japan’s actual maid café for training and will only be accepted if they passed the evaluation process during their training. So, boys and girls, this is serious stuff!

How serious can this get? Well, the Angel Café is actually monitored by Animetsu’s branch in Japan. The ‘Angel Café’ started its business yesterday (24th January), but apparently will be closed for some much needed improvements, and the official launching will be moved forward to March.
