College students in India that eagerly awaits their country’s first budget $35 tablet might have to just continue their study and projects instead of daydreaming about this tablet, for now at least. Earlier this week, the Times of India reported that the Indian government dropped HCL Technologies, the company responsible for manufacturing the budget tablet, for failing to follow through on the 600 million rupee (or $13,198,416) guarantee – apparently lead from a disagreement over production costs is to blame.

Yes, this means that the promise by the country’s Human Resource Development Minister, Kapil Sibal, of a launch date of January 15th has been delayed. Though, India’s officials claimed that the project is indeed still on track and should be ready by this summer. While the government seeks a replacement for HCL, it seemed that there’s no way of fending off speculations that parts alone will cost more than $35.
