Samsung goes deep into electrowetting display by buying Liquavista

Ever heard of the name Liquavista? Apparently they’re a Philips-spinoff, and Samsung has bought over the company last December. Now why would they do that? Well, Liquavista apparently pioneer electrowetting technology. Electrowetting has been said to be the fairy tale of all display company. It’s flexible, colorful, unbreakable, outdoor-readable e-paper screens with high refresh rates and low-power consumption that can be manufactured on existing assembly lines. Too good to be true, right? Well Samsung is playing with their luck by diving into this so called holy grail of display, as the company says that it’ll “expand its leadership in next generation display technologies by pioneering the application of electrowetting in e-Paper and transparent displays.” Surely this buy-over will help out a lot in Samsung’s flexible and transparent AMOLED technology.
