Parrot Asteroid brings Android to your car’s dash

Parrot may seem to be a very noisy bird to some outside of US, but here in the States it’s a company that has its core in range of automotive connectivity devices. This time, like everybody is doing it, they’ve stuffed an Android into the company’s latest stereo head unit. Fancy Android Apps in your car’s audio headunit? Probably not.
Anyway, the Parrot Asteroid comes with a 3.2-inch screen, jog wheel as usual, mic and SD card slot (which is rare), but also standard Android buttons for menu and back. What’s more intriguing are the pre-installed apps and what’s on the back. The rear sports four USB inputs, one dedicated to an iDevice and another ready to accept a portable data card to connect to the internet. But more importantly, Parrot will be releasing an SDK to developers so they can create their own apps and sell them through a yet-to-be-established Parrot Asteroid store. Very ambitious right? No price announced yet by the singing Parrot, but they’re expecting a Q2 release in this year. Now that’s what I call Android in everything. Now all we need is Android in your microwave and kitchen sink.
