Studio photography with a Nokia N8?

Usually, the cameras that you see in the professional studio, especially those fashion photography scenes, are filled with Hasselblads, Nikon D3X, EOS 1Ds mk4, or probably some EOS 5Ds mk2. That’s to be expected, as with clients needing the most tack sharp and high resolution pictures possible by today’s technological standards. But what happens when a team of professional photographers ditch the lumbering beasts which cost few dozen grands for a more svelte imaging solution, like the Nokia N8? Yes, the magazine cover you see above is taken with the Nokia N8.

Shooting for the cover of South African magazine PiX the photographers swapped studio monoblocks in favor of continuous lights as there is no way the Nokia N8 could sync with traditional studio flash systems. The 12MP cameraphone from Nokia, which is probably the best in the market, does well, producing nicely rendered colours and sharp pictures. This just goes to show that it’s not your gear that makes a picture, rather the person behind the lens, discounting the bajillion dollars in studio lighting of course. It’s not the cannons that matters, it’s the hand that matters.

There you go, now the Nokia N8 is the cameraphone to beat.
