Suspicious Intel Z68 Express Chipset leaked

The P67 chipset is yet to be released, and we already have leaked info on the next high-end chipset based on Sandy Bridge, the Z68 Express Chipset. The chipset, which is said to embrace integrated Intel HD graphics with support for both digital and analogue outputs, is designed to offer performance overclocking features for Sandy Bridge processors according to the slide leaked by a member of the Chiphell forums. Not sure why Intel HD graphics is here on a high-end chipset though.

According to the slide, the chipset will allow for ‘performance over clocking of processor, memory, and processor integrated graphics,’ with Intel clearly hoping to capture the performance enthusiast market with this revision. We should probably take this with a pint of salt, or sort. The oddball here shows that the chipset will have support for discrete graphic for multi-gpu in the form of 2 x PCI-E x8, or 1 x PCI-E x16. I couldn’t help but to think that this is a joke, because the current X58 is much capable of 2 x PCI-E x16.

There’s no support of USB 3.0, yet they’re ditching legacy PCI for 8 lanes of PCI-Express 2.0. Finally, as far as I can remember, the successor of Socket-1136 will not be using socket LGA1155, and the name of the chipset is supposed to have a prefix of ‘x’, not ‘z’. There you go. This should probably be a fake, or this is another platform.
