China develops first fuel cell light rail locomotive

Many nations are having a ‘train war’ to see who can develop the fastest train out there. But the real praise goes to China for that. They’ve been performing very well this year, with the world’s fastest train being unveiled this year, and another rail links project from Asia to Europe, something like the silk road of modern day. But now, this new train from China is pure awesome. The Chinese nation has just unveiled its first fuel cell light rail locomotive. That’s right; this bullet snake is powered by hydrogen. Electric still needs coal or hydro dam or some other methods to generate electricity, but hydrogen is something that’s commonly available.
This is the joint venture of China North Vehicle Yongji Electric Motor Corporation and the Soutwest Jiaotong University. Not just talking and no action here, the train is already developed and ready to launch. The train is powered yb an advanced permanent-magnet motor and hydrogen fuel cells, which are used to power they synchronous motor and frequency converter.
This fuel cell light rail locomotive is actually much better than traditional light rail, as the permanent-magnet synchronous motor can be used to efficiently generate power while reducing vibrations and noise, thus yielding a very remarkable degree of energy efficiency. Better comfort for passengers while lowering noise pollution to eliminate noisy train rail sounds at residential areas, the magnetic motor is able to cut down energy usage by 10-20 percent.
China is reported to apply this new technology into its existing urban public transportation networks in its electrification projects, which they hope will decrease the dependency of fossil fuels.
