Europe’s getting a new source of broadband this time all thanks to the new Hylas 1, which just got shot up to the ring. This one comes with the commercial venture of UK startup Avanti Communications and the British government, also the European Space Agency. Luke, get this smartphone! Or die!!!

NTT DoCoMo has recently launched the Samsung Galaxy S in the Japanese market. Since it’s a direct iPhone competitor and as many would say the iPhone is a godsent, this would make the Galaxy S running Android a smartphone from the dark side. Thus, NTT DoCoMo has revealed their latest ambassador for the Samsung Galaxy S, and his name is Darth “roundabound” Vader. He’s starring in their latest “always with you” ads, where he serves as some form of human representation of the phone, thus lending some anthropomorphic qualities to the cold slab of technology awaiting you in the shops.

Microsoft released statement regarding Windows Phone 7 hack

Microsoft released statement regarding Windows Phone 7 hack

Remember when we talk about a slight ‘hack’ onto the Windows Phone 7, where a utility will allow you to bypass the requirements for installing apps, thus making you able to install the API alone without needing to go through the app stores. Now, Microsoft has released a brief statement regarding that:

“We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.”

So, they didn’t abruptly say that it’s illegal, but they did mention that you’ll break the warranty, besides some other things that may or may not occur. Just like what Apple did regarding iOS jailbreaking. But this is still Microsoft, and they’re so used to their Windows being widely pirated, so they might still use some other techniques like WGA, or they might end up like Apple, releasing updates and updates only to have them cracked open in days.

These days everything is motion sensor. Game console going after it in a huge way, and they’re not the only ones playing with cameras for movement detections. Intel’s Seattle research lab has also been working on a sly of projects related to what they describe as “Kinect style” projects.

Pirate Bay founders lose appeal to court, jail time reduced, but fines raised

I’m pretty sure many people who lurk around the World Wide Web know what the Pirate Bay is. And since they’re so famous, the authorities are also very ‘friendly’ with them. The four Pirate Bay founders lost their court case in a Stockholm district court in April of 2009. Obviously, by looking at this case it’s known that they’re the guilty ones and those in the down side would usually be advised to admit early and appeal for lighter sentence. Same case for them, but it didn’t really end in a good way anyway. Read more…

Windows Phone 7 hits 3,000 apps and games in the marketplace, new developers in the number of 15,000

Windows Phone 7 hasn’t really lifted off, as they’re just announced not too long ago. I won’t say it’s a real contender to the iOS and Android just yet, as there are still some features missing in Windows Phone 7 take makes it incomplete. But Windows Phone 7 is indeed a refreshing experience from the seas of icons in the iOS and Android handsets. Last time, success is measured by units shifted; now success is measured by the number of apps, games, and developer headcounts. This is where Steve Jobs keeps boasting about the success of their iPhones and iOS, and Google keeps on saying that they’re catching up in a bizarre number. Nokia announced just last week that they’ve attracted some 400,000 new developers over the last years. Now you see that every smartphone companies are using apps as the measuring unit. Read more…

Kinect does wonder

Many developers have shown what the Xbox 360 Kinect can really do, all thanks to the open source driver. It’s all about your creativity, though all you can actually do is wave around with your hands, and maybe your body too. Some dudes at the MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group did what many did, attempting to redefine the human-machine interactive experience. But what they achieved is something you only see in movies, with many sci-fi effects. But it’s done in real life. Read more…
