Samsung notches record profits, wants to overtake iPhone

Wow, Samsung is on a roll here. If we just look back a year ago, everyone was struggling with the recession economy crisis, but now Samsung is posting record breaking revenue. The numbers reaches ₩40.23 trillion ($35.8 billion) as well as profits (₩4.46 trillion; $3.96 billion) in this latest quarter. Credit goes to strong semiconductor performance for the bulk of its newfound fortune. A tip of the hat was also given to its mobile communications business, with the outfit moving a staggering 71.4 million phones during Q3 2010 (a 19 percent boost year-over-year). Reports are noting that between five and seven million of those were of the Galaxy S variety, and it’s hoping to sell ten million of ‘em before the close of this year. Careful Apple, somebody’s close on your tail.

BMW DesignworksUSA working on world's greenest parking garage, not for your home

DesignworksUSA, a US design and research division of BMW Group, is hard at work on developing the perfect parking garage to match our upcoming lifestyle of using Electric Vehicle (or Hybrid at least) daily. In partnership with Canopy Airport Parking, the design house plans to construct a 4,200-vehicle facility at Denver International Airport that will house full scale green technology solutions. The garage (and its shuttle buses) will tap into power sources from solar, wind, geothermal, compressed natural gas, biodiesel and hybrid drivetrains, just to name a few. In an attempt to make the new building more attractive to EV and plug-in hybrid owners, there will be “juice bar” charging stations ready for them too. Read more…

Gucci's Real D 3D glasses is so cool!

Gucci's Real D 3D glasses is so cool!

Well, if you think Oakley’s $150 3D shades are something, wait till your girlfriend asks you for this. Yes, buying your own 3D glasses and bring them to the cinema is getting into the trend nowadays, but if the 3D glass will cost you $225, I think you should consider that again, and again. Unless you really don’t want to look like those mosquito-eyed-beings in the cinema, like the rest of the crowd. Then get this Gucci 3D glass. You can’t go wrong with them, as they’re ‘optically correct’ Real D frames. With its latest design and no plastic wraparounds, you’ll be the absolutely most fashionable person in a crowded dark room, where nobody will be looking at you. Look for these to hit your local US Gucci boutique. Or, you might want to wait for Louis Vuitton’s edition. But at least wearing this will make you look like Mr Smith, or Mrs Smith.

Canon PowerShot G12 excel in its test

Canon PowerShot G12 excel in its test

I’m sure Canon is no stranger when it comes to cameras. Their PowerShot series are miniature wonders, especially those that starts with a ‘G’. For those who can’t stand the weight of a DSLR and don’t really know how to handle them, then you should seriously consider this new G12 from Canon. This $499 camera is the successor of the G11, and it still make use of the previous 10-Megapixel sensor behind the exact same 5x zoom lens, and even has the exact same suite of full manual controls. But this time, as with nearly all cameras in 2010, it shall come with a 720p recording that can handle 24fps. What’s great here is the arrival of a stereo mic, about time for HD age. Another new trick up their sleeves is the introduction of HDR mode, where they stitch together three photos with 3 different exposure settings to make those absolutely stunning photos. Microsoft executives get their own public avatars

And you think that your heavily customized avatar that took so long to create and personalize is awesome? Wait till you hear this news. Apparently someone in Microsoft’s Xbox Live department is so free, that they’ve created avatars for their executives. Well, at least Joey B. looks like the real deal. But I can’t really say the same for Steve Ballmer. Looks like a thinner Ballmer that’s ready to enjoy his retirement. I guess Steve Jobs doesn’t play Xbox after all. Must be enjoying his retirement somewhere in Bali. That should explain why he doesn’t get his avatar.
