NEC’s Smartia is the vanilla Android tablet, not the best looking around

NEC is also venturing into the Android tablet by introducing the ‘Smartia’ in Japan, which will be launching next month. It’s pretty much the consumer-oriented version of its LifeTouch ‘cloud communicator’. Spec wise, the 7-inch tablet has a resistive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolutions and is armed with a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor. There’s a 384MB RAM, a 1GB internal memory, SD/SDHC card slot, a 3.0-Megapixel camera, integrated GPS, and accelerometer sensor. Connectivity comes standard with WiFi and Bluetooth. This tablet is powered by the Éclair, which is the Android 2.1 operating system. NEC didn’t mention anything regarding updates to Froyo (Android 2.2). Not a wise move actually, considering Froyo has been around for quite some time and Gingerbread is just around the corner. The Smartia will become available in Japan from December 6th for around $510 via Japan’s ISP Biglobe.
