Acer to launch a new Android smartphone in April 2011

Acer has revealed that they indeed have an Android phone in their lab, which is pretty much a production ready smartphone. It’s going to be a 4.8-inch smartphone, which seemed like what Dell Streak is. The 4.8-inch screen will have a very high 1.24 x 480 resolution on the very awkward 21:9 aspect ratio. The phone will be a “full metal body”, something like what Apple’s been doing to their MacBooks. Aluminum unibody phone anyone?

The new phone will have Android on it, with Acer’s customized UI. Front camera is a two-Megapixel camera, and the back is an eight-Megapixel rear camera with LED flash, capable of 720p video recording. Six-axis Gyroscope and accelerometer will be present, with LED edge lighting. The phone will be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon. Other common suspects are Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n WiFi, HSDPA support, and HDMI output. It’s already a pain to carry around a 4-inch Moto phone, but now Acer goes and does the “100 percent smartphone, 100 percent tablet” thing with this 4.8-inch smartphone.
