Sandy Bridge showing signs of awesome performance with 5GHz in air cooling

Here we have a look at an upcoming Sandy Bridge processor from Intel, the Core i7-2600K processor utilizing 32nm technology. This overclocking stun is done by Windwithme. You can have a look at the full review which is at the source down below. This is a Socket 1155 processor (not to be mistaken with the Socket 1156) that has 4 cores and 8 threads. The ‘K’ suffix behind the new 4-digit naming of the processor means that the multiplier for the processor is unlocked. Yes, this is a baby that screams of overclocking, similar to AMD’s Black Edition processors.

The motherboard used here is a Biostar motherboard utilizing the upcoming P67 chipset with Socket 1155. You can treat this as a successor to the T-Power i55 since this motherboard is named TP67XE. The prefix TP would most probably mean T-Power too. The RAM used here is a Corsair Dominator-GTX3 DDR3-2400 dual channel kit. Extremely overclocking greedy little RAM with the fiery red heatsink, a signature of Corsair’s enthusiast RAM. The RAM has a timing of CL9 11-9-27 with stock voltage of 1.65V.

Here’s a brief info of the overclocking system to gain 5GHz on air.
- CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K
- MB: BIOSTAR TP67XE
- DRAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR-GTX3 DDR3-2400
- VGA: GIGABYTE GTX260 OC
- HD: CORSAIR CSSD-F40GB2 Raid 0
- POWER: Antec TPQ-1200W
- Cooler: Mega Shadow Deluxe Edition
- OS: Windows7 Ultimate 64bit
In default the processor is set to have BCLK of 100. With core multiplier of x35, the stock speed is 3.5GHz with 1.008V at idle and 1.044V stock. Oddly, CPU-Z is showing stock speed of 3.4GHz, but since this is an ES (Engineering sample) processor, so there’s nothing surprising really. The RAM managed a speed of 2133.8MHz with CL9 10-9-27 1T at voltage of 1.5. Hyper PI 32M X8 time is 14 minute and 24.460 second. The CPU Mark 99 score is 539. Fritz Chess Benchmark receives a 13212 score at speed of 27.53, while AIDA64 Memory Bandwidth gets 21901MB/s.
After some intense overclocking, 5GHz is achieved at the same 100BCLK but with a core multiplier of x50. Idle voltage is around 1.392 while full load gets a voltage of 1.452. RAM speed is still the same at 2133.8MHz with CL9 10-9-27 1T at voltage of 1.5 this time; Hyper PI 1M gets 07.551s while CPU Mark 99 gets 770. The 5GHz Core i7 processor scores 18839 in Fritz Chess Benchmark in 39.25 time, and achieved a 25235MB/s in AIDA64 Memory Bandwidth.
