Galaxy S overtakes iPhone 4 in Japan in first week’s sales, barely

Samsung has just launch their Android-powered smartphone, the Galaxy S at Japan, and it has already outsold Apple’s iPhone in first week sales. The first time in 18 weeks that iPhone’s domination streak was broken. Admittedly the figures only reflect one week’s sales. Also important is that the sales reflect the first week in which Samsung’s offering was made available for purchase.
However, there’s a twist in this story. Japanese market researcher BCN says Samsung’s flagship smartphone ousted Apple’s iPhone 4, but only specifically the 32GB variant. Yes, once you sum up the sales figures of the two variants of the iPhone 4 (16GB and 32GB) and you will see that Apple still held hard the throne of smartphone. The two iPhone models led the ranking for the last 18 weeks, since they shipped in Japan in June.
