Apple informs labels that iTunes song previews will be 90 seconds long, whether they like it or not.

This sure is an odd thing, but perhaps Apple wanted to make it official, so that they don’t mind, and won’t send any letters from the advocates. If you’ve noticed, song previews in iTunes has been running around 90 seconds, but Apple didn’t make any announcement or so. But now, they’ve sent out letters to their partners, and Apple seemed to be doing this ‘whether you like it or not’.
“We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases,” the document stated, but without giving the music labels any way to say no. Sound sad, for publishers. Though I doubt that’ll hurt their business. Apple may be right though, their sales may actually shoot up!
