BMW DesignworksUSA working on world's greenest parking garage, not for your home

DesignworksUSA, a US design and research division of BMW Group, is hard at work on developing the perfect parking garage to match our upcoming lifestyle of using Electric Vehicle (or Hybrid at least) daily. In partnership with Canopy Airport Parking, the design house plans to construct a 4,200-vehicle facility at Denver International Airport that will house full scale green technology solutions. The garage (and its shuttle buses) will tap into power sources from solar, wind, geothermal, compressed natural gas, biodiesel and hybrid drivetrains, just to name a few. In an attempt to make the new building more attractive to EV and plug-in hybrid owners, there will be “juice bar” charging stations ready for them too.

DesignworksUSA is also hoping that their newly designed garage will lift a Platinum certification from the Green Parking Council, a non-profit group that certifies parking structures based on their ecological and social impact. But this ain’t an ordinary show-off concept. The whole design idea is already up and ready for business starting late next month, just in time for some turkey to charge up. And that’s a great thing. What’s stopping people from buying EV and Hybrid is because of the lack of infrastructure, and this will be the pinnacle of the starting point.
