Windows Phone 7 officially launched

There we have it. Finally, Microsoft officially launched their much hyped about Windows Phone 7 with a big bang. The Windows Phone 7 is not Microsoft’s first take onto mobile OS platform. We’ve seen the Windows Mobile and we all know how that turned out. Now, Microsoft is ready to let the world embrace their wrath, and also officially pick a fight in this market. So now, we have the three big mammoths of the silicon valley fighting in the portable smartphone market that used to be dominated by Nokia and Sony Ericsson and Motorola and… uh. Those were the days.

“We have a beautiful lineup in this first wave of Windows Phone 7 handsets,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft. “Microsoft and its partners are delivering a different kind of mobile phone and experience – one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a ‘glance and go’ format.”

Anyway, Microsoft isn’t alone on this launch event. They have their handset partners ready to give the show a blast. We’ll soon see new WinPo7 handsets arriving as early as October 21 in selected European and Asian markets, and early November in the US. The phones will find their way into over 60 cellphone operators in more than 30 countries this year. Most of the phone would be powered by the powerful 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and will have 480 x0 800 pixel resolution. We’ll be looking through all the phones shortly.
