Google CEO: Ridiculous that human drive cars

Do you like auto pilot? Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt sure does. He thinks that we human shouldn’t be driving. Heck he even thinks that “it’s a ‘bug’ that cars were invented before computers.” That’s why he said that “we should give up our right to the steering wheel and hand the keys over to a computer, because we human aren’t very good at driving”, at a recent TechCrunch conference.
Yes, it’s a good idea to integrate more AI into daily driving. In fact, it’s a brilliant idea. Think of how many lives that can be safe from dumb blondes doing makeup while cruising on the road that caused unneeded accidents. Then there’s the traffic jam that can be reduced drastically as cars move more efficiently, and on the correct route that has no jams. Computers could one day seamlessly route vehicles to the best possible road, virtually eliminating the Interstate parking lot. Oh, and don’t forget that drivers are becoming increasingly distracted by electronic gadgets like smartphones.
But until it is heavily researched and proven feasible AND ‘safe’, I’ll still hold tightly to my steering wheels. And oh, it feels great to hold the manual gear knob. On the meantime, I’ll just say that Mr Eric here watched too much i-Robot.
