iOS 4.1 almost ready, iOS 4.2 coming soon.

While announcing the new range of iPods last week, Apple also announced the upcoming iOS 4.1. It will boast a number of bug fixes with some other rather notable additions. The proximity sensor issue and weak Bluetooth issue will be fixed in this issue. What’s interesting is that Steve Jobs also stated that the iPhone 3G’s performance will be ‘improved’ with this version, unlike the previous iOS 4.0 when it ‘killed’ the 3G.

Other ‘gooding’ stuff are like High Dynamic Range photos for the iPhone 4 (damn I’m so excited to see how this works out, perhaps like how Sony does it on their Alpha), HD video uploads over Wi-Fi, TV show rentals that’s identical feature to the iTunes 10, and also the Game Center where Apple nerds might finally find their life partner.

Game Center will boast a range of new capabilities for multiplayer gaming, like how it’s done in Japan for the Nintendo. Game Center will also bring many rich features to the iPod and iPhone gaming scene, with things like ability to challenge your noob friends to a kart game with missiles, keep track of scores, and new ways to find games. Something that the original N-Gage system Nokia wanted. I guess Apple has done it right?

According to Apple’s UK website, iOS 4.1 will hit on Wednesday, September 8th, but has since been pulled down. The US website still displays the non-committal “Coming Soon” message. The new iPod Touch that’s about to be ship out soon should also have the iOS 4.1 tagged along, but that’s not for sure. Anyway, we might just see the iOS 4.1 out for download at iTunes anytime this week.

While showing off iOS 4.1, Steve Jobs also previewed the iOS 4.2 for the public. iOS 4.2 will be the version for iPad to have multitasking, as it’s the first iOS 4 version to go into the iPad’s belly. New stuff would be the AirPlay, which is able to stream music and video to your i-device over Wi-Fi. The AirPlay feature will also allow the iPad to act as a host for the new Apple TV. iOS 4.2 will also feature a tiny Print Center applet which will enable wireless printing feature for your i-device to any wireless printer. Kind of nifty there. Very much welcome, as I can already imagine how this can be used in some hefty scenarios. The iOS 4.2 will be coming to iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch devices in November. Not very far away actually, so stay i-tuned.
