A $1.5 billion city and you can’t drive in it

A $1.5 billion city and you can’t drive in it

This is the plan for the new San Juan city in Puerto Rico. New? Yeah! They’re planning to remodel the whole city with a $1.5 billion budget. No big deal? Yeah. But catch this; the theme around here is “The Walkable City”. Why? No cars allowed inside the city!

The new layout will feature a new mass transit system, new roads and intersections, and more beach access point, which they hope to remedy previous poor urban planning in the oldest section of the city, the Isleta, while curbing reliance on motor vehicles. The plans for redevelopment also hope to make the city more appealing in order to attract new residents, as San Juan has suffered from a shrinking population over the past 60 years. Sounds to me like the best place to sell bicycles, and Segway for Justin Bieber’s fans!
