AMD 'finally' ahead of Nvidia in quarterly sales, by a hair.

This came as a rather surprise. ATI was in an obvious lead for so long, considering their Radeon HD 5000 series totally ripped apart Nvidia’s graphic card line up. If you consider the HD 4000 series to be the starting point of the victory, then you’re very wrong indeed. This is because AMD’s successful Direct X 10 graphic card has only begun taking the lead in quarterly shipments.

According to Mercury Research, the analysis split the market share in an extremely tight condition of 51 and 49 percent in favour of ATI. This surely is some improvement if you compared to last year’s 41 percent quarter achievement. The tight split is actually due to the analysts taking count only discrete chips, which includes laptops. This means Intel’s integrated cheap and cheerful chips are left aside. Things will see even greater improve as AMD hope for, since Apple’s latest refresh of their iMac and Mac Pro lines siding ATI instead of the usual green monster. Wake up call for Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang?
