NUnbreakable AMOLED, to fight the Retina display?

Samsung has been a pioneer in AMOLED plastic panels, making them for many products. There’s even shortage of AMOLED worldwide. But that doesn’t seem to stop Samsung’s engineers from improving the AMOLED panels. Now they’re planning to launch a display with an AMOLED plastic panel on the universal board within two years. What that means is, the AMOLED display would be unbreakable.

Samsung idea is to inject thin film transistor (TFT) onto the AMOLED plastic panel and replace the vinyl protection sheet with polyimide film. Of kuch, if you somehow drop your phone (touch wood) the glass will still break or shatter, but at least you still have a workable touchscreen underneath the smeared shards, and you call might not drop too.

Samsung plans to start producing these new AMOLED screens in two years. Let’s hope they can figure out how to make AMOLED readable in the sun by then too. But two years is still a long way to go so, maybe a Samsung Galaxy U?
