Microsoft patent application cuts controller cords, new controller for the Xbox Platform?

When gaming, wireless mouse has always been avoided due to polling and latency issues. As always, copper wins hands down over 2.4 GHz spectrums. But of kush, everyone knows that wireless game controllers and mouse are always more convenient over wired controllers and mouse. Now, Microsoft has developed a ‘hybrid’ controller, and has already patented such design, using infrared, Bluetooth, or RF technologies alongside a wired (possibly USB) connection and switch between the two “without permanent disruption to an ongoing game.”

But of kush, there’s been a few examples of similar tech being used since years ago. Microsoft’s very own Sidewinder X8 and the Razer Mamba can switch between wired and wireless modes without much of a hassle and cough. The PlayStation 3’s controllers also work similarly, but don’t seem to be smooth during the transaction. The Microsoft’s Xbox 350 Play & Charge kit comes with a cable, but the cable only charges the controller’s battery pack, not sending data to the console, so you’re still using wireless. Well, we’ll be able to see what’s up on Microsoft’s sleeves sooner or later.
