Now this is very interesting news, and it’s big too. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) stated that pornography sites will now have its own top-level domain (TLD) called dot-XXX (as in .xxx). This move was decided after a long six-year push by ICM Registry to group all adult entertainment sites into one TLD for easy reference.

Rita Rodin Johnston, ICANN board member stated that despite her agreement to the creation of dot-XXX domains, it is unlikely that any community will be sponsoring this move. This is because the dot-XXX project will be under the ICANN’s rules of “sponsored TLDs”. That would mean these domains are created by interest groups.

However, changes would not come that eminently as the ICANN must review ICM Registry’s business plan for the domain, and then review the contract proposal for the operation of the domain. But at least it is an effort taken. It would be great once things started taking momentum. Despite making pornography sites easier to be found once under the dot-XXX domain, it would also means that parents and corporate would have easier blocking of the pornography sites.
