Can Water Cut It? iPod

March 26th, 2009

Can Water Cut It? It is similar to the Will It Blend videos. Can Water Cut It uses a Flow Waterjet to cut through lappie, golf club and blender into half (2 pieces). Now take a look at Flow Man uses an ultrahigh-pressure Flow waterjet to cut an iPod.

“What makes waterjets so popular? Waterjets require few secondary operations, produce net-shaped parts with no heat-affected zone, heat distortion, or mechanical stresses caused by other cutting methods, can cut with a narrow kerf, and can provide better usage of raw material since parts can be tightly nested.”

Waterjets slice through steel up to 10″ thick. It will easily slice through your hand, whatever direction you touch it from.

Pure waterjets (waterjets without an abrasive added) are used in the food industry to cut meat (no worries about bacteria on cutting surfaces).

Commercial waterjets are positioned very close to the surface they cut (about 0.05″) and typically have a protective cover (the nozzles are brittle and expensive), so it’s difficult to get your fingers in there.

Check out the charming industry-standard warning placard:
