Sony issues global li-ion battery recall

September 29th, 2006

Still remember about the laptop explosion, Sony has finally issued a worldwide recall of all Sony-manufactured lithium-ion batteries used in notebook computer. Lenovo/IBM joined the ranks of Dell, Apple and Toshiba in issuing a recall for all Sony batteries that ship with their notebooks. Between the three of them, Dell, Apple, Toshiba, and Lenovo, the number of recalled batteries worldwide is up to 7 million. Sony plan to consult with OEM customers who wish to participate in the recall, so if your battery is a Sony that hasn’t been exchanged, watch out for more updates from your notebook manufacturer.
