Canova Concept : Dual Display Touch Screen Laptop

June 24th, 2006

Why use a regular laptop, which limits you to a keyboard and mouse, or even a tablet which only offers one touch screen, when you can be using the Canova dual-touch screen notebook. V12 Design+Engineering is located in Italy and Australia, specializing in far end designs that once you stop to think about them can easily become reality. Why bother with a keyboard when you can turn the bottom screen into a keypad–obviously customized 100% including hot keys, language support, and more. This dual screen is also great for graphic artists and that only scratches the surface.

“only scratches the surface”, ha! I see what you did there. Smudges, more like.

But seriously, the tactile feedback on that keyboard is non-existent, meaning that the vast majority of typists will have some serious adjusting to do. Have you ever tried touch-typing with one of the projected keyboards? With no key-edges to feel, your fingers drift out of alignment.

For applications where text input is an afterthought, the on-screen keyboard would be a fine substitute for toting a real one around. But personally, I do too much typing and couldn’t see this being useful without some tactile improvements. Maybe a little roll-up skin?
